Green Technologies 2012
In today's society, there is a lot of
emphasis on going green. To go green is to change one's lifestyle for
the benefit of the environment. There are a number of environmental
concerns. Individuals that "go green" try to live their daily lives in a
responsible way while considering the outcome of their decisions as they
may impact air quality, the quality of water and other environmental
concerns. Some are concerned that their actions may impact global
warming. Others are concerned about protecting animal habitats or
preserving the rain forests.
There are a number of green
technology solutions 2012 that can be implemented.
Green Technology Solutions For Home
There are a number of areas in our
everyday life that we can go green and use green technology solutions
when it comes to our homes and home life. One of those areas is to use
environmentally friendly products. Environmentally friendly products are
often labeled biodegradable or eco-friendly. This means they return to
the environment in a natural form that is not harmful to the
environment. Most of these products are clearly labeled for you to
recognize.
Recent information indicates that some
biodegradable products decay at a rapid rate and can cause methane gas,
which is released into the environment. In those cases, these products
are not considered "green."
Another solution for home use of green
technology is to recycle. Products that are recycled may not be
environmentally friendly if disposed of in a landfill. But the
environment is protected through the recycling process. Many cities now
have special trash containers that are for recyclable items; or they
have containers that have one side for "recyclable" and one side for
"non-recyclable" items. By using these special containers, everyone can
be involved with green technology solutions in their home. Items that can be
recycled include all paper products, cardboard, plastic, glass, and many
metals.
If you want to "go green" and also earn
some green, you can take your own recyclable items to a recycling center
and sell them. Saving soda cans and water bottles can earn you some nice
pocket change while saving the environment.
There are a number of 2012 green
technology solutions when it comes to energy sources for the home. Those
energy systems include solar products and wind generators. Installing an
electric solar power system can save on energy used from the electrical
grid. Much of that electricity is produced from fossil fuel, which isn’t
green. By producing your own solar electricity, you can help improve air
quality and protect the environment. With government incentives,
solar
power systems can pay for themselves in is as little as five years. It’s also fun
watching your power meter actually turn backwards as excess electricity
flows back into the grid.
There are also other solar products that
can help you go green. Solar thermal panels produce hot water that can
be used to heat water for cooking, bathing, or heating a spa or swimming
pool. There are some great advantages of
solar hot water systems. These are
an effecient way to heat water and preserving our planet. There are also many green lighting solutions. Numerous home solar
lights are available that not only make life easier, but also save in
energy costs, while protecting the environment. There are solar garden
lights, solar pathway lights, solar spot lights and solar motion
detectors.
Green Technology Solutions For Transportation
Green technology solutions are not only
for the home. There are a number of green technology solutions also for
transportation. For the longest time, all that was available was
gasoline and diesel fuel for our vehicles. Technology has advanced
drastically over the last decade. Hybrid vehicles are now very
prevalent. Air quality isn't the only factor that has motivated auto
makers to switch to better fuel efficient vehicles. Now, even when
buying an SUV, people are looking for the most fuel efficient SUV to
buy.
Electric cars are a product of green
technology solutions. Outside of the fossil fuel that is used for much
of the electricity, electric cars are very green.
Solar powered cars aren't mass
produced yet, but will probably one day be available for the average car
buyer.
One form of energy that still uses fossil
fuel, but is very clean burning, is natural gas. Natural gas vehicles
are now becoming much more popular, even though the average person may
not be aware. Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) busses are now used in many
city transit systems. CNG trucks are being converted to natural gas at a
fairly rapid pace. CNG cars for sale aren't as prevalent, although they
will probably soon be mass produced too.
General Motors will be introducing their
Chevy Silverado 2500 HD and GMC Sierra 2500 HD extended-cab pickups
soon. These will be bi-fuel vehicles that use both gasoline and
compressed natural gas for fuel.
Chrysler is also producing their version
of a bi-fuel Ram 2500 HD pickup. These bi-fuel vehicles are a bridge to
the future. The biggest drawback today to natural gas vehicles is the
fueling infrastructure. Once that is in place, we will see a bigger push
towards purely natural gas vehicles.
Green Technology Solutions For Business
Green technology solutions are not only
for homeowners but also for business owners. Business owners can do a
number of things to go green, just as homeowners do. The same practices
that apply for the homeowner should be applied by the business owner in
addition to other green technologies. Businesses should also buy
eco-friendly products and recycle the same items. In addition, they may
have large amounts of copper or stainless steel, or some other metal
that can be recycled as well.
Many businesses have enough trucks in
their fleet that it would pay to install a fueling station for natural
gas. Many trucking companies have either converted their trucks to CNG
or to propane, saving a tremendous amount on fuel while taking a lot of
pollutants out of the atmosphere.
Businesses can also install solar panels.
After the initial investment for the solar energy system is paid off,
the business owner adds to his/her bottom line the amount saved on
electrical energy plus any tax implications.
Going green may look different for one
individual than it does for another. The same is true about businesses.
There are a lot of green
technology solutions in 2012. The more of these solutions we can
apply the better place this world will be.
